Our Approach

Support that starts with your family's strengths.

A strengths-based, client-centred, family-systems practice offering in-home support in the Comox Valley and secure video sessions across British Columbia.

Our Philosophy

We are a strengths-based, client-centered practice committed to empowering individuals and families to navigate life's challenges with resilience and renewed hope.

We work where life happens

Much of our work happens in your own home in the Comox Valley — at the kitchen table, during a school run, in the moments where change actually takes hold. For families elsewhere in British Columbia, we offer secure video sessions so distance never decides whether you get support.

A family-systems lens

No one heals in isolation. We look at the whole system around a person — parents, partners, siblings, caregivers, community — and help each part of that system understand its role. Practical coaching, clear plans, and steady follow-through matter more to us than jargon.

Confidentiality you can count on

What you share with your practitioner stays with your practitioner. Clinical notes are visible only to the professional who wrote them, and information is only shared outside your circle of care with your consent or where the law requires it.

What makes Pathfinder different

01

Flexible, purpose-built timeslots

Real progress cannot always be rushed into 50 minutes. Pathfinder offers custom-tailored session lengths based on what your family or child actually needs. Whether that means a focused two- or three-hour block to complete an activity, navigate a challenging transition, or provide intensive home-based support, we structure our time around real life — not a timer.

02

We meet you where life happens

Traditional therapy asks a child or family to adapt to a formal clinical setting, which can feel intimidating or artificial. Pathfinder social workers meet you in your natural environment — at home, at a local park, or out in the community. By removing the pressure of a stark office, we build genuine trust where clients feel most comfortable.

03

Built around interests, not desk chairs

Sitting across a desk trying to force conversation rarely works for children or youth. Pathfinder designs customized programs around what your child loves. Whether it's playing a round of golf, painting in a studio, or working on a hands-on project, our social workers engage directly alongside them. Progress happens naturally through shared action.

04

Total system & stakeholder collaboration

A counsellor typically focuses only on the individual in front of them. Pathfinder looks at the entire ecosystem surrounding your family. We actively connect, advocate, and coordinate with all key stakeholders:

  • Schools & educators: Aligning support plans for academic and behavioural success.
  • Medical professionals: Coordinating with doctors, pediatricians, and specialists.
  • Legal representatives: Navigating complex legal, custody, or court-related requirements.
  • Family & support networks: Unifying extended family, caseworkers, and service providers.

The Pathfinder promise

We bridge the gaps between professionals, schools, and homes. By blending active advocacy, experiential engagement, flexible time blocks, and full-spectrum case coordination, Pathfinder ensures your family never has to navigate complex systems alone.

How to get started with Pathfinder

Taking the first step toward integrated support shouldn't feel overwhelming. We make beginning your journey simple, collaborative, and tailored to your unique situation.

  1. 1

Book a free 10-minute info session

If you feel that Pathfinder's integrated approach is the right fit for you or your family, start by scheduling a quick, 10-minute discovery call. There's no commitment — just a chance to connect.

  2. 2

    Share your story & needs

During this initial call, our intake specialists will take the time to learn where you are right now. We'll discuss your family's specific challenges, goals, daily routines, and any key stakeholders involved (such as schools, healthcare providers, or legal teams).

  3. 3

    Receive your custom-tailored approach

Every family's path is unique. Based on our conversation, we design a personalized service plan — matching your family with the right social worker, determining optimal locations and session lengths (from 1-hour visits to 2–3 hour experiential blocks), and outlining a clear path forward.
